Cleaning with E-Cleaner

Choose your model to see the cleaning steps.

SD501, DX II, Jr. II and Jr. IV
  1. Turn off the machine.
  2. Remove the filter and place the cleaning powder unit (CPU) where the filter was.
  3. Add one E-Cleaner packet (discontinued) or one scoop of E-Cleaning powder (29.6 cc) to the CPU and close the lid.
  4. Run water for about 10 seconds, or about one liter.
  5. Place both hoses in a cup or pitcher.
  6. Run water until the ends of both hoses are submerged.
  7. Let the machine soak for five to eight hours or overnight.
  8. Rinse by running water for 10 to 15 minutes with the CPU still in place.
  9. Stop the water, remove the CPU and put the filter back in.

Do not store the CPU wet with the lid on. Let it dry completely.

SD501 U
  1. Turn off the power supply and remove the filter cover.
  2. Connect the water drainage tank to the unit. A click confirms it is secure.
  3. Press down firmly on the filter and slide the O-ring to the left. Remove the filter and make sure the filter O-rings come off as well.
  4. Add one scoop of E-Cleaning powder (29.6 cc) to the HG CPU, which matches the HG filter.
  5. Place the O-ring on top of the CPU, press down firmly and slide the O-ring to the right.
  6. Disconnect the water drainage tank. Water may spill, so drain it into the sink.
  7. Turn on the water slowly for about three to five seconds.
  8. Let the unit soak for three to five hours or overnight.
  9. Turn on the water slowly until it reaches full flow. Run it for about three to five minutes to flush out the remaining powder.
  10. Turn off the water supply and reconnect the water drainage tank. A click confirms it is secure, and water drains from the unit.
  11. Press down firmly, slide the O-ring to the left, and remove the CPU and its O-rings.
  12. Install the filter, place the O-ring over it, press down firmly and slide the O-ring to the right.
  13. Disconnect the water drainage tank and drain any remaining water. Place the tank under the unit and clean up any spilled water.
  14. Replace the filter cover and turn the power back on. If the HG filter was replaced, press the reset switch.

Care schedule

Regular care supports consistent machine performance. Follow this schedule:

  • Replace the filter at the recommended interval for your model, using a genuine Enagic filter.
  • E-clean twice a month in hard water areas.
  • Deep clean once a year.
  • Run beauty water occasionally for three to five minutes.
  • Run the cleaning cycle after making strong acidic water or strong Kangen Water.

Hard water has a high mineral content, mainly calcium and magnesium. To check your water, see your local water utility's annual report or use a test kit.

Why regular care matters

In hard water areas, minerals build up on the plates over time. Scheduled e-cleaning and deep cleaning help remove that buildup.

Examples of plate condition when scheduled care is missed.

Ionizer plates covered in white calcium deposits
Calcified plates.
Ionizer plates with the coating worn away
Stripped plates.

Important

After making strong acidic water, switch back to drinking water and run water through the machine until it returns to Kangen mode. This lets the machine clean itself and keeps strongly acidic water from soaking on the plates. Repeated soaking without proper maintenance can damage the plates.
